ALS Clinic
At the Crestwood ALS Care Clinic, an ALS Association Treatment Center of Excellence, our goal is to provide compassionate care for individuals living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). We support patients and their families through every stage of the disease, offering guidance, treatment and resources to help manage symptoms and improve quality of life.
What is ALS?
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Over time, ALS leads to the loss of muscle control, impacting a person’s ability to walk, talk, eat, and eventually breathe.
Although there is currently no cure for ALS, early intervention and a multidisciplinary approach to care can make a meaningful difference in how the disease progresses and how symptoms are managed.
Why Choose the Crestwood ALS Care Clinic?
Crestwood Medical Center is proud to offer one of the few ALS multidisciplinary clinics in Alabama. Our team-based approach brings together specialists from a wide range of disciplines to provide personalized, coordinated care, in one convenient location.
Our ALS team works closely with patients to create a care plan focused on maximizing independence, managing symptoms and providing essential emotional and social support.
We are proud to offer:
- Multidisciplinary Knowledge: Patients meet with multiple specialists during a single visit. Our team includes a neurologist, respiratory therapist, physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech-language pathologist, social worker and registered dietitian.
Consults are also available with a physician from a variety of specialties, including pulmonology, gastroenterology, ENT and psychiatry/psychology.
- Patient-Centered Care: We work closely with each patient and family to create an individualized care plan tailored to their specific needs and stage of the disease.
- Seamless Coordination: Instead of traveling to multiple appointments, patients meet with their entire care team during a single clinic visit, improving continuity and convenience.
- Access to Resources: As an ALS Association-recognized clinic, we connect patients with education, support groups, and equipment assistance through local and national ALS resources.
