Crestwood Medical Center Welcomes New Class of Resident Physicians, Reaches Milestone in Graduate Medical Education
6/26/2025
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Crestwood Medical Center is proud to welcome a new class of internal medicine and family medicine residents to its graduate medical education (GME) programs. With the arrival of the 2025 cohort, the total number of resident physicians training at Crestwood rises to 60, marking a significant milestone in the hospital’s commitment to clinical education and advancing patient care.
This year also represents a historic moment for Crestwood’s residency program. For the first time since its launch, all three postgraduate year (PGY) levels (PGY1, PGY2, and PGY3) are represented within the internal and family medicine programs.
“Reaching this point in our residency programs is a testament to the dedication of our faculty, clinical staff, and the entire GME team,” said Justin Serrano, chief executive officer of Crestwood Medical Center. “We are investing in the future of medicine right here in Huntsville and providing the next generation of physicians with an outstanding environment to learn, grow, and serve.”
Crestwood Medical Center launched its internal medicine and family medicine residency programs in 2023. Both programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and offer extensive, hands-on training that combines academic excellence with real-world clinical experience.
“These programs not only enhance access to care in our community, but also provide meaningful opportunities for resident physicians to build long-term careers here,” said Dr. Lyle Bohlman, program director of the family medicine residency program. “We’re proud to help shape the future of healthcare in our region.”
Resident physicians at Crestwood Medical Center work under the close supervision of experienced attending physicians and faculty members. Each resident is guided through a structured curriculum that emphasizes evidence-based practice, patient safety, and compassionate care. Supervision is designed to ensure progressive responsibility, allowing residents to grow their clinical skills and decision-making abilities in a supportive learning environment while maintaining the highest standards of patient care.
The addition of each new class strengthens Crestwood’s mission to foster clinical excellence, support physician workforce development, and improve health outcomes for the Huntsville area and beyond.
