Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Surgery (LGB)

This is the “gold-standard” operation for bariatric surgery. This procedure involves creating a small stomach pouch with rearrangement of a segment of small intestine so that food will bypass a portion of the small intestine. The pouch gives an early feeling of fullness. Bypassing the stomach and intestine prevents absorption of some of the consumed calories and alters the availability of certain gastrointestinal hormones thereby improving an existing diabetic condition. This surgery is done laparoscopically through 5 to 6 small incisions in the abdomen.
