June is widely recognized as National Men’s Health Month, a month dedicated to raising awareness for men’s health conditions and preventive care. Women are much more likely to visit the doctor for annual examinations and preventive care services than men, and without regular check-ups, serious conditions can often go undetected.
A major health concern for men is prostate cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, prostate cancer is the second most common cancer among men. If detected early, prostate cancer can often be treated successfully. Like other conditions, it is important to know and recognize the risk factors for prostate cancer.
The American Cancer Society recommends that all men request information from their doctors about prostate cancer screenings, including uncertainties, risks and potential benefits. Men with an average risk of developing prostate cancer should be screened at age 50 and those with a high risk should consider screening at age 45.
At Crestwood Medical Center, we strive to make men’s health a priority year round. FIND A MEN’S HEALTH PHYSICIAN today and request an appointment for your annual check-up.
