Neurological Therapy
Neurological therapy is a comprehensive multi-disciplinary service focused on working with individuals who have a neurological disorder or disease such as Parkinson’s, ALS, Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Spinal Cord Injury or Stroke. At Crestwood Therapy Services, our licensed Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy professionals play a major part in recovery after a neurological illness or injury. We treat neurological disorders including paralysis, vision impairment, poor balance, inability to walk, cognitive impairment, language problems, swallowing problems, decreased strength and loss of functional independence.
Our Therapy Services, including Physical, Occupational and Speech, are conveniently located under one roof. We also do home, work or school visits to access your patient’s personal needs.
In neurological therapy, an individual treatment plan is established for each patient after an in-depth evaluation of the patient’s needs and goals. To maximize progress, patients receive individual treatment in a quiet setting. We work in conjunction with the family caregiver to achieve the highest functional outcome.

Physical Therapy
At Crestwood Medical Center, physical therapy is an integral part of our comprehensive treatment program for patients who are physically restricted due to an illness, handicap or accident. Physical therapy can relieve pain, increase range of motion, improve strength and restore function after an injury, surgery, stroke or peripheral nerve damage.
Our goal is to help patients return to a more normal, active lifestyle as quickly as possible. After a thorough evaluation, our licensed therapists work closely with you, your physician and family members to establish an individualized treatment program complete with goals and objectives.
Our inpatient therapy is offered seven days a week to aid patients in a quick recovery. A thorough evaluation is performed with treatment plans and goals established with the patient’s needs as the top priority. We work closely with physicians and nurses who play a vital role in the patient’s care plan. Most therapy is performed bedside but access to whirlpools and gym equipment is just a short trip away. We encourage family participation and include caregivers in our education before discharge home.

Wheelchair Assessment
Specially trained therapists at Crestwood will help you assess which wheelchair is right for you based on wheelchair size, styles, and accessories. They will also help you decide if a manual or powered wheelchair is right for you. Having the correct wheelchair for you and your specific needs can reduce the risk of deformities, prevent skin breakdown, and improve function.
Saebo Arm Training Program
The Saebo Arm Training Program is a rehabilitation program designed to maximize your arm and hand function following a neurological injury such as a stroke. The program is specialized to help you use your weak hand for grasp and release activities through the use of custom designed hand splints. While wearing the splints, you will perform specific grasp and release activities with a trained therapist. Along with the use of your custom designed splints, an exercise program is implemented to improve your hand function as much as possible.
Speech Therapy
Speech Therapy involves the treatment of subtle language, memory, or thought processing problems and even swallowing problems that may affect many adults. Speech Therapists at Crestwood Medical Center provide a multidisciplinary team approach for stroke recovery and traumatic brain injury with physical and occupational therapy.
The Speech Therapy services offered at Crestwood include:
- Comprehensive speech, language and swallowing evaluations and treatment for inpatients and outpatients.
- Modified Barium Swallow studies with videotape (performed with a radiologist)
- VitalStim Therapy
- Counseling and community resources
VitalStim® Therapy
Dysphagia is a condition that causes difficulty swallowing. Our comprehensive treatment program combines neuromuscular electrical stimulation (VitalStim) with individualized therapy helping the patient re-learn muscle use for swallowing.
How VitalStim® works:
For adults, four electrodes are placed on the front portion of the neck. The electrodes are connected to the device. While VitalStim® is on, the therapist completes swallow therapy. This includes teaching compensatory techniques including chin tuck, taking small sips and bites and alternating food and liquids. The average number of treatment sessions is 10-14 with two - five sessions per week. Each session takes one hour.
Who is a candidate for VitalStim® Therapy?
Those that benefit from VitalStim® therapy include stroke survivors, patients with neurological disorders and patients with head and neck cancer. Children with swallowing disorders may also benefit from VitalStim® therapy.
LSVT BIG and LSVT LOUD
LSVT BIG is a physical and occupational therapy program for patients with Parkinson Disease or other neurological conditions that effect body functional movements. LSVT BIG treatment aims to enhance larger amplitude whole body funtional movements including faster walking with bigger steps, better balance, and increased trunk rotation.
LSVT LOUD is a speech therapy program that has shown positive results in sustaining louder speech and measurable benefits in swallowing, facial expression, intelligibility, and improved brain function.
Interactive Metronome Therapy
Interactive Metronome (IM) is a brain-based rehabilitation assessment and training program developed to directly improve the processing abilities that affect attention, motor planning and sequencing. The device can strengthen motor skills, including mobility and gross motor function, and improve many fundamental cognitive capacities such as planning, organizing and language.
Who is a candidate for Interactive Metronome?
Individuals with motor planning and sequencing problems, speech and language delays, motor and sensory disorders, learning disabilities and various cognitive and physical difficulties may benefit from the IM program.
